A total of 80 educational centers in Isla de la Juventud will open their classrooms to receive more than 13 thousand students on September 1 in a complex school year restart in view of the epidemiological situation in Cuba.
The persistence of COVID-19 in the country imposes different demands that require greater effort and responsibility, both on the part of workers and families to ensure the health of all, said Nuris Peña, municipal director of Education in an appearance to Islavision
The directive pointed out that the priority for teachers will be to systematize the necessary contents in the four weeks of September so that students are in a position to face an evaluation process in an exceptional situation to conclude in October the 2019-2020 school year and start on November 2 the corresponding to 2020-2021.
Teaching coverage is now in better conditions, the deficit is supplemented by alternatives of specialists and reincorporated retirees, we also pay particular attention to school organization at each of the educational levels, said Peña.
She reported that the territory has the material base of study to guarantee the quality of the educational teaching process and 17 of the 21 centers planned to receive maintenance are today in better technical-constructive conditions.
All schools are equipped with foot and hypochlorite steps for disinfection of hands and footwear, as well as the biosafety protocol required by the Public Health system to certify them for the restart of teaching activities, the directive stressed.
Peña stressed the responsibility of families to ensure their children the nasobuco, a garment of mandatory use to attend classes and effective in order to avoid the possible transmission of the new coronavirus, although in Isla de la Juventud they have not been reported for more than three months new positive cases confirmed to the disease.
In this sense, María Antonia Guerra -deputy director general of Education- said that in order to avoid overcrowding in classrooms due to the high enrollment in primary education, it was decided to use other premises of the national system of the branch in the territory to comply with the rules of physical distancing.
Likewise, the junior high school will modify the school organization by grades, days and sessions, she said, while recommending that families occupy their children with useful activities in their free time.
Meanwhile, Ena Reyes, also deputy director general of Education, specified that polytechnic students will alternate the days of teaching with those for practical activities, in order to avoid the confluence of all enrollment in the educational campus.
Reyes added that those who attend pre-university will attend classrooms three times a week from Monday to Saturday on alternate days, while twelfth grade students will prepare every day in the morning for the entrance tests, set for the days October 9, 12 and 16 to come.
