Today, a representation of the approximately 84 thousand residents of Isla de la Juventud pays posthumous tribute to the doctor in Historical Sciences Eusebio Leal Spengler (1942-2020), a man distinguished for his eloquent verb and edifying action.
With a guard of honor headed by the highest authorities of the special municipality, after depositing floral offerings, the pineros reflected in the book of condolences, arranged for the occasion in the Municipal Museum, texts of gratitude to those who as a historian overflowed the limits of the capital Cuban.
From 10 in the morning until five in the afternoon this Tuesday, the pineros will pay tribute to the memory of Leal Spengler, Historian of Havana, who died on July 31 last.
One of the grateful people today was Berta Hernández Calderón, for whom the renowned Cuban intellectual was an example of virtues, work and hopes, a passionate about the history of Cuba who consecrated his existence to the reconstruction of Havana's heritage, until that city deserved the Wonder City status.
In this sense, Roberto Únger Pérez, historian from Nueva Gerona, considered Leal Spengler's most visible material imprint Old Havana, a historic center that he raised from its ruins, stimulated by the ideas of Fidel Castro; and turned it into a gem of conservation that amazes those who visit and inhabit it, she said.
He was a man of vast dimension, said Únger Pérez, he never gloated over his expertise, but put it at the service of the people and humanity, none of the well-deserved recognitions in his fruitful life made him lose modesty, the kindness and exquisite manners that accompanied him until the end of his days.
